How to handle Guinea Pigs

APPROACH YOUR GUINEA PIG CALMLY

  • Remain calm & confident
  • If you are not calm, wait till you are
  • Talk to them as you pick them up

 

PLACE ONE HAND AROUND THE TOP OF THEIR BODY

  • Hold firm

AVOID SQUEEZING

  • They will squirm

 

LIFT THE PIG GENTLY WHILE PLACING YOUR OTHER HAND UNDERNEATH THEIR FRONT LEGS. MOVE YOUR FIRST HAND TO SUPPORT THEIR BOTTOM

  • Make sure your hand is fully supporting their bottom

     

LIFT YOUR GUINEA PIG HORIZONTALLY

  • Do not let their legs dangle

   

 

HOLD YOUR GUINEA PIG CLOSE TO YOUR BODY

  • Either on your chest or in your lap
  • Use a cuddle sack
  • Pat them
  • Talk to them
  • READ to them
